Travelling by Foot & Bicycle
For those travelling to the Galleries from surrounding areas in Washington there are a range of pedestrian footpaths and footbridges that lead to the Galleries. These footpaths and cycle routes have been documented in detail by Sunderland City Council. and can be found at http://www.sunderland.gov.uk or obtained in hard copy from Washington Library. Cycle racks are positioned alongside the Washington Library as well as Sainsbury’s entrance.
Travelling by Bus
Thanks to a substantial investment and redevelopment programme, customers and employees now benefit from one of the best bus stations in the region. The fully enclosed bus station has six stands, electronic messaging boards displaying arrivals and departures.
The Galleries Shopping Centre is easily accessible from the bus station via a lift or escalators. With 1,100 buses per day the bus station provides frequent, convenient links to all nearby towns and cities and the Metro system making the centre easily accessible from the surrounding areas. Travelling by Train & Metro
The nearest train stations to the Galleries are Sunderland, Newcastle and Durham. Both Newcastle and Sunderland Stations are linked to the Tyne and Wear Metro.

The closest metro station to the Galleries is Heworth Metro Station. The remainder of the journey will need to be made by bus which takes approximately 20 minutes from Stand E using bus 4.
