We all have a clear obligation to protect the environment. Whilst our primary responsibility is to our customers and retailers, our influence on the local environment is considerable. Our initiatives are guided by our environmental policy.
The Galleries has been awarded the BSI PAS99 standard which incorporates the BSI 14001 Environmental Management System (the internationally recognised standard for environmental management). This ensures environmental impacts are managed effectively to reduce carbon emissions, introduce renewable energy sources, increase recycling and minimise water usage. All staff of The Galleries receive environmental awareness training as a mandatory requirement.
Green Travel Plan
At The Galleries we see sustainable transport as an essential part of our ongoing commitment to becoming a more environmentally friendly shopping centre. As an integral part of the community we are working towards raising awareness of sustainable transport. Communicating the methods of transport available to and from The Galleries is a key aim of the Green Travel Plan and supports our visitors by improving awareness of public transport, cycling, walking and car sharing opportunities.
This is a ‘starting point’ for new and better ways of travelling, which effectively manages our transport and travel impact, we aim to create a cleaner, healthier environment for the wider community. We believe that by working closely with the local authority and transport operators to increase the options for sustainable travel to and from our centre, we can provide more choice for employees and customers with the added benefit of reducing our carbon footprint.
