As we close the door on 2008, it’s time to prepare for another swanky year of fashion. And as usual, there’s an avalanche of new styles to get stuck into.
The vibrant trends of the forthcoming season are poised to light up the High Street – and we’re offering a sneaky peek into some of the key looks for 2009. So grab those cash cards and get ready to do some serious shopping…
Last year, mismatched clothing was one of the season’s hottest looks. And for 2009, the trend’s set to continue with another cut and paste effort – the dinner suit. This swanky style pairs traditionally formal elements of a classic suit with cutting edge street wear. If you’re unsure how it’s done, look to A-list fashion icons like Pharrell Williams, Andre 3000 and Kanye West.
It seems jeans and t-shirts are no longer first choice for laid-back casual wear. This season, dressing up’s the new dressing down. Whether it’s a glitzy awards bash or night at the pub, guys are getting dressed up to the nines in ultra smart styles. Go for the sixties-inspired Mark Ronson suit, or rock the classic tweed look like Jay-Z.
One of the key men’s cuts for 2009 will be the deep V-neck. This dramatic look is set to replace the shorter style, which has long been a fashion favourite. Expect to see it slashing through jumpers, t-shirts and cardigans throughout 2009.
Heading into 2009, it seems girls still love the masculine look. Skinny jeans have been relegated to the back of the closet, while boyfriend jeans are thrust firmly into the limelight. The loose, slouchy style may not be for everyone, but it’s set to become one of the hottest looks of the year.
Back in the 80s, Bros hammered the final nail into the coffin of ripped jeans. But believe it or not, they’re back from the dead and keen to show who’s boss. Whether it’s torn denim shorts or violently shredded jeans, the elderly style’s been given a sexy makeover to become one of the must-have items for 2009.
Last year, fringing was splashed all over the spring/summer runways. And this season, it’s set to become one of the hottest looks on the High Street. Whether it’s sleek and elegant or glitzy and burlesque, this is one style that's top of every girl’s wish list.
A couple of years ago, you couldn’t move for rock ‘n’ roll t-shirts covered with a smattering of tiny jewels. This year, the sparkling style’s back in vogue with an exotic, glamorous revamp. The jewels are now bigger, bold and brighter than ever – and the more, the better.
The butterfly motif is set to take over from the star as the number one motif of choice. This feminine, delicate image will be all over the High Street, adorning t-shirts, jumpers and dresses. But don’t go for the loud, garish style – this season the butterfly is all about understated elegance.
