Washington Customer Service Centre and Library
Residents and visitors can explore, enjoy and discover a world of knowledge right on their doorstep following the opening of the newly redeveloped Washington Customer Service Centre and Library.
What was once the old Washington Town Centre library has been completely refurbished. With its new light and bright interior and improved access, the new library has been updated to give customers all the quality services they expect from a modern Sunderland library. This includes thousands of books for adults and young people, free computer and internet access at one of 40 PCs, courses, study groups and reading groups to join and lots more.
A team of friendly and fully trained library staff will be on hand to offer help and advice ranging from details of adult learning courses, to information on what’s going on in the local community. Library staff are also trained to give information, advice and guidance on job interviews and can help with writing a CV or completing a job application.
The new Customer Service Area will also give users access to information and advice on a wide range of City Council services under one roof. This includes housing and council tax benefit, welfare rights, children’s services, Job Linkage, Wearside Credit Union, Ask Recruitment and even environmental services.
Those interested in finding out about the area’s heritage or more about their own family history can visit the library’s new heritage area, packed with information on local history.
There will be an exciting programme of free activities for all ages and in the new children’s area young people and their families can sit back, relax and enjoy reading or take part in a children’s story time session.
