
Washington ’F’ Pit
Washington ‘F’ Pit - a chance to step back in time and explore the region’s coalmining heritage.
The pit, which was sunk in 1777, brings mining to life for today’s residents of the North East.
A magnificent Victorian steam engine, engine house and headgear are preserved as a monument to Washington's coalmining heritage that reaches back over 250 years.
Museum staff will be on hand to answer questions about the industry which was so important to the region.Open: Saturday 12 September 2009 (11am -1.30pm & 2pm - 5pm) Sunday 13 September 2009 (2pm - 5pm) Free entry.
