The History of the Galleries Health Centre
The Galleries Health Centre was opened in September 1976.
It was a purpose-built premises with three levels, planned by Durham Health Authority but taken over by Sunderland Health Authority before building was completed.
There were three GP Practices at that time offering Speech Therapy, Child Health and Dental Services.
Services began to increase soon afterwards offering Relaxation and Parentcraft classes, Family Planning Clinics, Consultant Outpatient Clinics, Physiotherapy treatments, X-Ray Department, and Chiropody sessions.
The Health Centre now offers a wide variety of care to Washington and the outlying districts for those about to be born, through all age groups, right up to the elderly.
