By Bus
Thanks to a substantial investment and redevelopment programme customers and employees now benefit from one of the best bus stations in the region.
The fully enclosed bus station has six stands, electronic messaging boards displaying arrivals and departures along with a travel information centre.
The Galleries shopping centre is easily accessible from the bus station via a lift or escalators. With 1,100 buses per day the bus station provides frequent, convenient links to all nearby towns and cities and the Metro system making the centre easily accessible from the surrounding areas.

By Air
Newcastle Airport is the closest airport to the Galleries which is facilitated by a metro system. To get to the Galleries from the Airport, take the metro to Heworth Metro Station which is the closest to the Galleries.
From Heworth Metro Station the remainder of the journey will need to be made by bus M1, M2 and M3, M1 departing every 20 minutes and taking approximately 16 minutes to get to the Galleries, whereas the M2 and M3 run every 30 minutes and take 30 minutes to get to the Galleries.
By Train
The nearest train stations to the Galleries are Sunderland, Newcastle and Durham. Both Newcastle and Sunderland Stations are linked to the Tyne and Wear Metro. Trains travel to and from Newcastle northbound towards Edinburgh and southbound towards London Kings Cross.

The closest metro station to the Galleries is Heworth Metro Station. The remainder of the journey will need to be made by the M1 service which takes approximately 16 minutes.

For those travelling by car there are approximately 3000 customer car parking spaces. Of these spaces there are 105 Disabled Spaces, 74 Parent and Child spaces and 7 spaces for motorcycles (of which 1 disabled motorcyclists within the Asda car park). Refurbishment works currently underway at Sainsbury will create additional car parking space for customers.

For those travelling to the Galleries from surrounding areas in Washington there are a range of pedestrian footpaths and footbridges that lead to the Galleries. These footpaths and cycle routes have been documented in detail by Sunderland City Council. The immediate area surrounding the Galleries can be seen below.
